Can't access PC in workgroup

Hi,
I have two pc's with win-xp pro SP2 (one is laptop and the other kai is a
desktop pc).
All the updates have been done .
Windows firewall is disabled and nothing else similar is installed.
I have a workgroup and shared directories in both pc's.
IP 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 in desktop and 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 in
laptop.
The connection between them is either wireless (adhoc) or with a cross-cable.
Under the name of the workgroup the names of the two pc's are shown but when
I click from on at the other I get an error. This happens from the second pc
also.
I have same account (username and password) and the user has administrator
rights (both pc's).
I have guest account enabled and deleted from the security policies in the
point which tells what user should be excluded to access the net (somebody
told me so).
The messages are something like 'permision denied' or 'Check if you have the
rights to access this network's source' etc. I have the greek version so I
don't know the exact translation.
I tried several names for the workgroup, several IP/subnets and I have
always the same problem.
I can ping pc's from one to other with problem.
I also tried the simple file sharing and the full sharing.
In the case of the adhoc, the link is correct with windows zero
configuration and the configuration from the software of the cards.
Both pc's are working fine when I join a domain (physical at work and
remotelly).
I have read all the related texts from microsoft and others but still can't
make it work. It's very annoying cause I have waste a lot of time for this
simple thing.
What else should I do.

I think that you need to have the guest acct enabled for any network to work.

You've obviously done a lot of work to date on your problem. But maybe you need
to consider the symptoms with more care.

There are many reasons for the "access denied" message, from connectivity and
browsing problems (I'm not referring to Internet Explorer here!), to actual
authentication settings. Try and provide some details about the network please.

Next, consider diagnosing your problem in an ordered manner. Make one change at
a time, and test each change carefully.

I read the links you mentioned and much much more.
I'm not sure what was the problem but for a week the network it worked.
I think the norton av and his worm detection close the ports used for file
sharing etc and also the node type of the two pc's was different (now is
broadcasting type).
Then with no reason it started again the same problem but now the situation
is this:
1) I have from laptop to desktop pc full access to the shared resources
(dirs and printer).
2) From desktop pc to laptop I get 'access denied'
3) When I give from command line \\VladLaptop\XXX where xxx is a shared
directory, it opens !!! but from the ms windows network in explorer I get the
error I said.
4) I checked that C$ and Admin$ rights are the same with the desktop pc but
the problem exists.

Hi Stafylidis,

The first thing you need to do is identify the problem. An access denied can
occur in the network (Norton AV / AW), in the browser (Network Neighborhood
visibility / access), or in file sharing itself (account / share rights). In
order to find the problem, you need to verify the problem, from the network up.

Now please describe more carefully how each computer connects to each other, and
to the Internet. Does one connect to the Internet, and the other thru the
first? Or do both connect to a router? Your answer to those questions
determines how we will proceed.

The fact that the problem seems to come on its own, plus your point 3 above,
plus one computer using WiFi makes me think browser conflict:
