Can I Fax from my computer over ethernet?

O.K. I admit it I am stupid when it comes to computers but,here is my question anyway.Is Xpfax only used in conjunction with an actual fax machine?Or can I use it to fax over the internet to businesses that I need to fax to?And if I can fax over the internet with Fax Xp then how is it done? please help

There are services which allow faxing over the Internet for a fee, such as
http://www.efax.com/efax/twa/page/homePage?CMP=OTC-us .

A Google search will turn up many more.

If you want to fax directly from your computer you'll need to have a
standard fax modem plugged into a regular phone line.
