Las month Activision teased that their next Call of Duty game would go back to its roots... Well this weekend some leaked promotional material has come to light, and it looks like this hint was referring to a game set during World War II.

Could be interesting!

It'll be great, until you realise it call of duty and they probably have jet packs and air strikes.

...and it'll probably cost £50 or £70 for the 'deluxe' version.

CoD 1, 2 & 4 were great, landmarks in their time, but mostly after that they lost the plot imo (CoD 3 was console only).

You know what we want.

You know what it will be.

Both are very different.

Despite my cynicism, still interested. Maybe they've realised how good the first few were and instead of trying to be clever with futuristic plots and twists, will revert to their roots but supported by a more up to date game engine.

Let's hope so. Might even splash out if the reviews are any good.

Oh, and it would be good if the single player part was more than 6 hours long.

'Please let it play good' indeed, it looks more like a film trailer than a game.

I'm curious as to how they might put a new spin on it as in the gaming world WWII has been done to death, if you'll forgive the unfortunate turn of phrase. Wasn't D-Day covered rather well in CoD2?

Still, when CoD is good it's very good so if this turns out ok and they don't take the Mick too much with the price, then I may very well have a dabble.

That really does look like a CoD2 remake - although that's not necessarily a bad thing! Gaming has changed quite a bit in 12 years, so this may be going back to its roots.

The pre-order's on Steam now: Release date November 3rd - 6 months away - standard edition - £45 (just about acceptable if it's any good and thinking about the multiplayer here) and £80 for the so-called deluxe version (taking the **** and they can go **** themselves).

As yet it hasn't been made clear just what the £80 version has over the £45 version and there doesn't appear to be any advantage in giving them your money 6 months up front.

In the narrators words 'cautiously optimistic'.

But it's difficult to get excited about something half a year away.

Look pretty good to me to be honest, but I'll reserve judgement for now.

Graphics look great. Not so sure about all the extra stuff that shows up in the multi player, all them pop ups and mini icon things, just confuses the heck out of me.Guess now I have better broadband I should give multi player a go someday.

Story trailer looks great, but I fear it will be a terrible MP game..

That's a lot more of a story than I was expecting (which is a good thing!) - I'm feeling hopeful :).
