Call of Duty - Scrambled Text

I have an almost identical problem with installing Call of Duty, using
an S3 Graphic ProSavage DDR device on Windows 98.

Since Safe Mode doesn't allow me to access the game on D-drive, the
next thing I tried was Step-by-Step Confirmation (Number 4 of MS
Windows 98 Stratup Menu).

This automatically gives you 16-bit colour, which is then rejected by
the game during installation as it requires the next higher colour
setting. When I then tried readjusting the colour setting to 256-bit,
the computer would automatically need to restart in Normal Mode, which
means I'm then out of Safe Mode!

Help!

Will I ever manage to get this game to run?!!

First of all: This is for XP hardware questions, not Windows 98.
Second: Games under XP have their own newsgroup.

Third: Your video card is a "old" poiece of hardware and the game may not
support it. In fact, most game publishers are concentrating on the current
video card line-up. It may be time to upgrade to a nVidia GeForce card or
an ATI Raedon card.

Y.
