Browsing between win 2000 and XP

I have 2 machines connected via a crossover cable - one machine is
running windows 2000 professional and the other is running windows XP
home.

I have set static ip addresses 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.11.

The machines successfully ping in both directions.

One machine (the windows 2000 machine) is a work lap-top. Normally it
is connected to the office domain.

The home machine is just on it's own workgroup.

I can see the workgroup on both machines on windows explorer but when
I attempt to browse to the other machine I get the following error on
the win 2000 machine.

"<workgroup_name> is not accessible. The list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available"

The win xp machine only sees itself on the workgroup.

When do I need to do to enable browsing on windows explorer between
the machines?

They have to have perms between them. map directly to the //(ip
address)/share then put in the user name and password it is needing to
access the share.

I have this same issue, but I was unable to understand your reponse. I
have a similiar configuation. 3 pc's connected to a Linksys broadband
router connected to the cable modem. The 2 home pc's see each other, but
the work machine cannot see the other PC's nor can the other PC's see the
work machine.

I don't use usernames or passwords to see the files on the 2 home pc's.

Can you get a connection to my work PC?

Thank you.
