I downloaded free registry mechanic 2.2 from download.com and ran the
software. When it had finished scanning it said i had alot of broken links
and unused software entries. It said it would fix this, so i ran it again
and the same things are coming up, any ideas what to do or what downloads to
get that may help this?

Any help would be great cheers!

Leave things alone unless now that you've run this registry cleaner your
system isn't working. Do a Google Groups search for "registry cleaner"
and read all the posts about the subject that have come up in this
newsgroup over the last month or so. You will see that most
professionals (myself included) do not use or recommend registry
cleaners. Basically, if you don't know enough about the registry to
manage it yourself, don't use a registry cleaner. And obviously, if you
know that much about the registry, you don't need a third-party
cleaner.

How many are coming up?

You might have some forms of malware which replace the keys and files
after you delete them.

Your best bet is to look at something like Spybot S & D, a 100% Free
Program which will be the ultimate terminator and clean most of that
stuff for you. You can find this by going to www.google.com and
searching for Spybot S & D.

Another one to look at getting is LavaSoft's Adaware, a great product
that most IT Pro's shouldn't live without. You can find this by going
to www.google.com and searching for Lavasoft Adaware.

You've turned loose a program that "Thinks" it knows how your
system is configured (Hardware/Software). Registry Cleaners are
like "Death, by a Thousand Cuts". A little nick here and there &
before long all manner of issues will start appearing. As Malke
said best to learn how to make simple changes/tweaks. Before
anything else gets helped along, I would do a System Restore to
a state before Registry Mechanic twiddled with the Registry. If
you're intent to use these things - Image your system first and
then when the hidden ramifications show up - put the Image back
on and mark it down to a "Lesson, well learned".

I have now removed the registry fixer from my pc. I use spybot s & d,
adaware, winsockxpfix and microsoft antispyware, i also have mcafee personal
firewall. I was just wondering what else you would recommend i use to get
all the rubbish off my pc and get this thing running better
