blue screen and Office 03 application crashes

Hi,

I have had this issue for a while and wonder if anyone here might be able to
give me some hints in getting around it.

I have this laptop HP that has 1G of RAM, running on XP Pro SP3. The problem
is the word application or excel application shut itself off (or crashes)
after using it for a while. Luckily, they do autosaving. What really annoys
me is that it crashes at least once a day. Are there any way of
troubleshooting this apart from re-installing Office 03?

The other thing i found bizarre is that when i was trying to install a game
onto the same machine just recently, it ran into a blue screen for just a
second before it re-booted itself. I did not quite get the error message on
the blue screen but i think it's to do with dumping memory kind of problem.
Then, i run chkdsk feature to make sure nothing is wrong with the hard disk.
It turned out to be all right. I then run memory test or memtest (open source
software) and again the result was good. Now, i am left puzzled not knowing
how to find the cause and have it fixed.

Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Prepare for the next time you get a BSOD!

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I couldnt find a reason for office excel crash.

Office 2003 is almost an five year old product.I would recommended you
upgrade your office applications.

Some usb devices may cause random system crashes and hangups in some
cases bluescreens. If you have any usb devices check them.

Just because it's five years old? That's ridiculous advice. If it does the
job you bought it for, why upgrade? What problems does age, per se, bring
about? What *additional* features do you think Office 2007 offers that are
needed? Not to mention the learning curve forced by the new interface.
