Hi, this is really weird - I get a blue screen with a memory dump or
something when I try and play a Mpeg2 file. This is a recent problem
and nothing that has happened before. It works fine with VLC player
and plays fully, no crash - but when I try and run the file with
Windows Media Player - blue screen, crash and reboot.

Any ideas?

A few years ago,a common complaint was the experience youre having, the
cause always seemed to be having two or more players installed at the
same time & both could play the same music...The conflict between the two
can/could cause problems.Try editing the file types of each player, for WMP,
tools,options,file-types tab.Uncheck or check file type, set the other player
no access to them....

Thanks for the response, but I think it is the new Nvideo forceware
drivers I installed 2 weeks ago. I am going to revert to an older
version and see what happens.
