Big Problem ... I'm Losing Files!

L

Lilly

For about 3 days I'm having a big problem. Please help

I'm the only user/administrator using XP-Pro for about a year. I've had the
usual problems, but I've been fairly happy.

My system is otherwise stable and has no recent changes. However, I keep
losing my 'C:\Documents and Settings\'me' directory. (I am 'me') I mean, I
keep losing all of my personal settings like the desktop etc. It's
repeatable

I've run two virus scans (Norton and AVG) and two Spyware scans (Spybot and
Ad-Aware) the result => Clean.
I also went to command and restored all my system files .. => No Help.

Most everything runs well except I keep losing all desktop Icons and my
system is markedly slowing down.

I have a gut feeling that there is something like a virus/trojan but I
haven't found it.

I know that all the little virus people are not killed by our usual scans,
but am I missing something else?

Help!!

Update your virus definitions and run it again. If that doesn't find anything, try an online scanner at http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

And follow the instructions (you have to use IE to use this online service), and be sure before you run the scan, that you check the box "Detect unknown viruses (heuristic)" and then scan "My Computer". Note you will have to download and install an active X control that will upload to your PC up to date virus definitions.

Also, I would download Adaware SE 1.05
www.lavasoftusa.com

and SpyBot search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

install, update, and run them as well.

Hi Lilly,
Try Line 30 left side.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Reboot when done.
