'Lost' toolbars and desktop

I'm suddenly losing all my toolbars in windows explorer and I'm also losing
all my desktop shortcuts.
This happens repeatedly. I've run two different virus scans, as well as
AdAware and Spybot.
The relevant files in my 'C:\Documents and Settings' directory just seem to
vanish into thin air!
I'm only able to restore the desktop and toolbars by using the system
restore utility or by using my backup.
The system is otherwise working well.

Any ideas?

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW

Dear Mark,
I was just writing you a 'thank's' message. However 'it happened again' !!
It's totally weierd. It's disabling
My system is basically running well.
I'm an 'Administrator' and I still have this problem.
Another Co-Administrator is OK ... No problems.
And, several other people, not administrators, are OK ... no problems with
them.

Mark,

Thanks for your suggestion. I was starting to write a thank you letter when
it happened again.

I'm almost ready to copy my data files and reformat my drives (2 days work).

Anyway, thank you. (P.S. - I suspect I still have some virus type file on
my system, unrecognized by the current companies ?)6y

Dear Mark,

I tried that $5.00 Taskbar repair tool and the script instantly recovered my
Quick Launch toolbar and desktop icons.
It was magic! I just hope that the problem doesn't recur. I'll let you
know if it happens again, otherwise thanks a bunch.

Lilly

P.S. I'm writing to the thank developer of that slick little application.
