I finished the SP campaign in 4.5 hours.......short game. 49.99 euro isn't cheap.

I was right then, assuming it would be as short as it's predeccessor. It may be even shorter in fact cos BBC2 took me about six hours I think, 3 hours each evening.

V_R said:
You dont buy a BF game for the SP though tbh ;)

I do, always have done, which is why I'm waiting for this one to come down in price.

As I've said, with the MoH early games and the first few CoD's, all the emphasis was very much on SP with MP tagged on as an afterthought.

I'm disappointed and think that the shorter campaigns are just sheer laziness whilst the publishers reap it in from sales based on MP and the inevitable 'Here's some maps we made earlier but didn't release them with the game initially cos we knew you suckers would shell out more money for them'. Oh, sorry, it's called DLC ;)

tbh, I'm beginning to get the pox with gaming, I keep feeling like I'm being ripped off, games are either too short, ridiculously difficult or just plain rubbish.

And then the Publishers wonder why piracy's rife - huh!

Alright, Mr Grumpy Old Git got that off his chest, hope you fellas are enjoying the BF3 MP, sincerely :)

Thats why I stopped gaming seriously around 3 years ago now...Still play the odd game when its cheap as chips but other than that I get more pleasure replaying some of my older titles!

Incoming: Battlefield 3 update!

The DICE team are hard at work supporting Battlefield 3. To date, we have implemented several server updates to improve stability and performance. Next week we are publishing a significant Battlefield 3 client update for the PC. Console patches take a bit longer due to the certification requirements for console content, but it will follow shortly after the PC update.

So what’s in the PC patch? You’ll see improved polish, stability, weapons balancing, squad control functionality, user interface enhancements, and several feature enhancements that address feedback the community has provided to date – plus we’re removing the so called “negative mouse acceleration” that some of you have experienced.

Regarding cheating and boosting, we continue to analyze data to identify and hold accountable (ban, wipe stats) players that cheat or boost. We’ve received questions about what to do when faced with unsportsmanlike conduct in Battlefield 3 – the best course of action is to click the warning sign next to their profile name in Battlelog, or head to the EA Help Desk and report your issue. These leads will enable us to follow up on the report.

We appreciate all the feedback. Keep it coming to help us with future improvements. Check back next week to confirm the patch launch date and the detailed fix list. Thanks for playing and sharing your feedback with us!

Really starting to love this game and this should fix a lot of the little niggles its still has. :D

Slightly off topic but to emphasise my dislike of game publishers offering 'DLC'. I've been playing Rage and keep coming across manholes that lead to sewers. When I choose to enter the sewers it says 'The Sewer maps are available as downloadable content' and offers a link where they can take your money.

DLC is now inbuilt to many games but time was you'd get the whole thing in the initial game package, it's just another way to milk the customer dry.

Skyrim, so far, appears to be an honourable exception, it has oodles of stuff.

Ok, normal BF3 service will now be resumed ;)

The promise was that anyone who purchased the game for PS3 would receive a PS3 version of the classic Battlefield 1943 game. It was supposed to be a way to encourage sales of the game on Sony's platform.
EA is now being sued, not because it had to change its plans, but because it didn't communicated those changes to consumers until it was too late.
Law firm Edelson McGuire is seeking class-action status for the lawsuit. In its complaint, the firm says EA "misled and profited from thousands of their customers by making a promise that they could not, and never intended, to keep."

-- A detailed look at Squad refinements

A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.

...and the new Server version R9 changlog...

DICE have released Server Update R9 with the following changes:

- Support for unranked servers (vars.unranked)

- Ranked servers have a few settings as read-only. Please see here for more info: http://www.killercreation.co.uk/imag...anked_vars.jpg

- Unranked servers allow changing of all settings

- Reintroduced vars.allUnlocksUnlocked for unranked servers

- The game server will parse all of Startup.txt even if an error is encountered

- vars.roundStartPlayerCount / vars.roundRestartPlayerCount handling rewritten to be more natural

- vars.maxPlayers cannot be used to go past the server's max number of slots any more

- Security updates to the game server

- Fixed several server crashes, hangs, and a 10-second stall - all of which would make the server drop every player

- vars.gamePassword can only be invoked during server startup, not while the server is already running

- vars.teamKillCountForKick 0 will disable team kicking instead of kicking people frivolously

- banList.add would sometimes crash; fixed now

- EOD bot scoring exploit fix

R9 is scheduled for release today, Tuesday 22nd at 07:30 GMT in coordination with the client side update.

Battlelog will be down for maintenance between 07:00 - 09:00 GMT (ish) during which will take this opportunity to update all BF3 game servers to the latest release.

Hi all,

We will release an update to the PC version of BF3 on Dec 6th -- that is, Tuesday morning around 8AM GMT next week. This coincides with an upgrade of many of our central systems which will be down for some hours starting around that time.

It will be both a client update -- approximately 2GB in size -- and a server update.

The client/server combination will be incompatible with older clients/servers. All players will be prompted to download the update once it has been released. All RSP companies will begin upgrading their servers at the same time.

The client update is large because it contains most of the content for Back to Karkand. This is not ideal, so we aim to make potential DLC content in the future as optional downloads.

Bugfixes:
Fixed a problem with spawn timer now showing blue border on startup and lost spawn point
Fixed a problem where player who joined queuing on End of round got spawn screen stuck on screen, but unable to do anything with it untill next round loaded
Fixed a problem where camera would change to 3rd person on killcam when killcam was turned off in server settings
Fixed stat references on several dogtags
Fixed for surveillance ribbon not counting TUGS
Fixed a missing combat area lines on the minimap for Grand Bazaar conquest small
Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
Fixed a problem where placing C4 with the russians soldier was playing US faction VO
Fixed a problem where TV guided missiles could be shot into its own helicopter and destroy it
Fixed a problem when attempting to fire lock on weapons without a target
Tweaked the chat, it should now be a bit easier to read
Fixed several vehicles that did not properly shoot rockets and guns towards their predictive sights
Fixed the G17 Supressed Laser not working properly
Added alternate HUD colors to help colorblinds
Added a network interpolation setting. This allows users with good bandwidth reduce latency, but might increase some stuttering. The user can find what works best for his connection by tweaking the slider.
Increased the Spawn protection radius on TDM
Fixed a problem with smoke on land vehicles, Missiles should now miss more often
Fixed a problem where users could end up with IRNV scope in any vehicle
Fixed a problem where player dies if vaulting over a ledge and into water while sprinting
Fixed several crashes and increased general stability
Fixed a problem where the user was unable to revive two players that have the bodies one over the other
Fixed so you can assign an axis and use as a digital input. This makes it possible for the player (on pc) to assign one of the sticks on a gameped to be used for throttle/brake.
Fixed a problem with the Kill camera acting up when suiciding from parachute
Fixed air radar was showing to much. now lasertagged, heatsignature above threshold, enemy missiles and capture points are only visible on air radar
Fixed a problem where the game would enter a technical hang if the user pressed pause menu and tilde at the same time
Fixed a problem where you could get green flashes on screen
You can now reassign cycle weapons
Fixed so the weapon zooms automatically after bipod deploy is gone when using zoom toggle
Fixed a problem where the parachute would stay stuck in air if the owner was killed

Balance Tweaks:
Fixed several weapons so they are properly suppressed and hide the player on the minimap when fired.
Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.
Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.
Reduced heat masking effectiveness of Spec Ops Camo.
Fixed a bug where Ammo spec would give additional 40mm grenades instead of Frag spec.
Increased the number of additional 40mm grenades from Frag spec.
Fixed so AT mines only live for 20 seconds after a player dies to prevent infinite mines. (We want to make a different fix in the future, it’s in JIRA).
Increased the Time to Live on sniper caliber rounds to allow extreme distance shots.
Fixed several weapon descriptions, calibers, and fire rates. The weapons themselves have not changed.
Fixed so the M9 and MP443 pistol can be equipped by the opposing faction when it is unlocked at 100 kills.
Fixed Laser Guided Missiles missing their targets if the target is moving too fast.
Reduced the effectiveness of Stealth on Air Vehicles.
Reduced the effectiveness of Beam Scanning for Jets.
Reduced the damage done to Armored Vehicles and Infantry from AA guns.
Increased the damage RPGs and Tank shells do to AA vehicles.
Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.
Increased the effective accuracy of long bursts for LMGs when using a bipod.
Slightly increased the range of the 44magnum bullets.
Increased the close range damage of 4.6x30mm and 5.7x28mm bullets.
Increased the reload time of the Mortar from 3.5sec to 4.8sec and increased the time it takes before a shell hits the ground.
Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus given by a Suppressor for the MP7, P90, PP2000, PP-19, and UMP45.
Increased the range and FOV for designating targets with the SOFLAM and vehicle Laser Designators.
Decreased the effectiveness of 12g FRAG ammo when equipped on semi-automatic and automatic shotguns.
Slightly Increased the power of Fighter Jet Cannons against all vehicle targets, especially Helicopters.
Decreased the power of Miniguns against Jets and Helicopters.
Increased the power of Stingers against Jets.
Flares reload times for Jets and Helicopter Gunners have been increased.
Tweaked the AN94 so its burst fire better conveys the real world advantage offered by this weapon.
Added Single Shot to the AN94 as an available fire mode.
Slightly increased the recoil on the M416 and removed the Burst Fire mode (this weapon incorrectly had burst fire, which was not authentic).
Tweaked the spawns for TDM on Kharg Island, Grand Bazaar, Caspian Border, Seine Crossing, Operation Firestorm, Damavand Peak and Noshahar Canals
Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
Tweaked the Gas station Capture area on Conquest on Caspian Border
Tweaked the max vehicle height on Noshahar Canals

Also, it will once again be possible to reduce the number of players required to start a round to 1 both in ranked and unranked mode. We changed it back after getting a lot of negative feedback from both individuals and the RSP companies.

Our plan is to introduce a warm-up mode, where players can move about and play the game, but with scoring disabled; then, when the number of players goes above the threshold -- that's when the real round starts.

I received a copy of BF3 for an early Christmas present, hard copy, two DVD's, this is my experience, no bias.

Insert disk, asked to install Origin client. Start install, choose not to have desktop icon, I get one anyway. When I try to open an account with Origin and enter my email adddress it seems I already have an account with them, I'm known as 'doctordark'. Oh yes, I remember, the Alice game.

Start Origin, it wants to download and install updated application, so do that. Agree to several EULA's or such like along the way (this is a constant throughout the whole process actually).

Prompted to install 1st BF3 DVD, enter code number, install commences, 1st disk takes about ten minutes to install, asked for 2nd DVD. Eject first disk, insert second disk... BSOD. WTF? This is a first for this machine, put together in September.

Have to switch off PSU, wait and reboot machine for BIOS to recognise primary SSD HDD then go back to BF3 install, this time both disks load ok, quite quickly. I note Origin has seen and listed three other Origin games, Alice Madness Returns; BF2 Bad Company and Dragon Age II. This doesn't stop a pop-up from Origin inviting me to buy the Alice game for half price.

There now followed a very lengthy update to BF3, presumably a whole bunch of patches, which took over an hour. Sign another EULA and we're good to go.

Fire up Campaign (single player) prompted to install browser plug-in and informed game needs this to run. Ok, I do that. Start game again.

Try to map key functions and I can't use some buttons on my Logi G500 mouse. I usually use one of the side buttons to run so this is seriously bad news, poor show on EA's part.

Takes forever to load and we're into a movie on a train where soon you have to use a pistol. At one stage jump outside train, hanging on, die because I don't press the space bar quick enough and I'm playing on easy setting. Eventually figure the answer to this is to rapidly keep tapping the space bar and I climb to train roof. Back to movie, er, game. There follows a lengthy cut scene where I'm a soldier being interviewed by spooks.

And eventually I'm into the single player game proper and this is probably the best looking game I've ever seen in my life, the visuals are quite stunning. Creeping around streets in Iran or somewhere, the game is realistic, seems good, though heavily scripted. Into a firefight I die several times sometimes through being shot and once for 'leaving the combat area'. WTF? I was just trying to creep into the building where the baddies are holed up. Checkpoints so far seemed fair but no manual save available.

So let's try multiplayer. Click on 'Quick game'. It says 'loading level'. Ten minutes later nothing has happened so go to browse servers. Find a game, ask to join, and I'm in, took about two minutes. Ping is good, gameplay fluid. Graphics are superb.

I've no idea what game mode I chose and as I wander about I haven't got a clue what I'm supposed to be doing and don't see any other players even though it says there are 13 other players present. There's a narrative going on about 'losing the base' or something and aeroplanes flying about, one of which crashes not far from me. So I meander about aimlessly waiting to get shot and nothing happens. Confusing as hell.

So, played through some more single player, not sure if I like it or not, ok, great graphics, but very much a feeling of being a thrird party contributor rather than a game player.

Basically, there is very little freedom, absolutely no free roaming. Several times I wandered from allotted path and I died.

This game, whilst looking drop dead gorgeous, is basically a walkthrough where you press buttons when you're supposed to. Don't try and veer from the very linear path you're supposed to go through on this multi-media experience or you will die.

If you get off on nice visuals with the occasional bit of button mashing going through what is basically a feelgood ad for the American Army then buy this game. Those of us who favour real gameplay shall look elsewhere.

As for multiplayer, call me stoopid but I just can't work out what the hell you supposed to do, gimme CoD4 & CoD5 MP all the way. Even Black Ops, come to think of it.

Seriously, apart from looking good, this game is a little disappointing to those who favour real gameplay, avoid.

I will concede, however, that the airborne mission you get early on the game almost makes the whole thing worthwhile, very real feeling of taking off from an aircraft carrier and taking part in aerial combat, I enjoyed that.

Return to Kirkand? DLC? Go take a hike EA, you penny-snatching low life. Mind you, Batman Arkham City is just the same, it's been out a coupla weeks and they're offering, for cash, 'DLC' I hate you all! I mean, like, really really hate you

You are telling me that the Batman DLC wasn't available two weeks ago when it was released? And BF3's return To Kirkand? Of course they were, they're both just calculated rip-offs that I will not be paying money for.

Meanwhile, Bethesda have made available modding tools for Skyrim and I look forward to mods and add-ons crafted by fans and players of the game - for free.

Make sure you are mapping htem to the middle colum and not hte one on the far right or left. :)

Sounds like a game of conquest, dont use the quick match option myself, prefer the server browser, look for the flags and make sure you join a squad. Trust me preserver, its worth it. :)

I got to play in the end, god knows what EA did but they seemed to fix it. Seems even though i couldn't log in to Origin i still managed to get a game... :/

Origin is so worthless.....

Back to Karkand seems like a good set of maps, time will tell.

BTW, if you pre ordered BF3 you did get B2K for free, but buying on Origin got you a couple of days sooner than the rest.

Also, anyone playing this on PC feel free to add me to Battlelog. :)
