If you are using Windows XP Home then the backup utility isn't installed by
default. You should find it on your Windows CD or, if XP was prinstalled by
the shop you bought your pc from, the recovery disk.
Insert the XP or recovery disc into the CD-Rom and browse the CD using
Windows explorer. Looks for a folder called ValueAdd. Open this folder and
then click on the subfolder Msft. Inside you should find NTBackup.msi Click
on this to install the backup utility.
Incidentally, if you are using a recovery disc you might find the backup
utility in a folder labelled Tools.

Hi John. I posted a message earlier about the XP Backup utility. I've
searched my system and recovery disk, which is OEM, for ntbackup and found
nothing. In response to my earlier posting, two different people recommended
I get it from http://www.onecomputerguy.com, but one wisely suggested that
it was risky to go to unknown sites and download. Do you know anything about
this site? I would value your opinion as an MVP.

Linda I have seen Bob's site before albeit briefly. However, I do not
personally know the site and unless i personally use the site and am
satified with its content you will appreciate it is difficult to give any
sort of endorsement. From what i have seen it looks pretty good but i
haven't fully explored the site. It is also true to say that the reply you
got regarding 'unkonown sites' being risky is a good one. What i suggest you
do is email me direct at john_freelanceit{NOSPAM}@hotmail.com (remove the
NOSPAM) from the email address) and i'll see if i can email you a copy of
the ntbackup utility
Unfortunately, it is not available on my own website.

I should have added that you are very prudent by being wary of unknown web
downloads. But I know for a fact that that one's OK.

Steve,
I have both downloaded items plus received great information from the
"onecomputerguy" site for about two years with absolutely no problems. If
they have a file/program you need, go get it.
