Back up & Scheduling

I've attached an external hard drive to my desk top. I started by trying to
do a back up of all info but after creating the file it came up with the
message that the files for diskette recovery could not be created, and the
operation was aborted. I can do a manual backup of any of the other 3
options. What is stopping the 'all info' option? I have also tried
scheduling a nightly backup but although the task is set up and appears in
the task list it never starts. I am also getting error messages like 'The
new task has been created but may not run because the a/c info could not be
set. The specific error is 0x080070005 Access is denied. Or when I hit
the Advanced icon when trying to set up the schedule it asks for a password.
When I enter the password I get the message 'You do not have permission to
perform the requested operation.' How do I overcome these problems?

Be sure your User Name is set up with a Password and has Administrator rights.

Thank you JR13
I do the following:
1, Select Backup Files and Settings
2. Select My Documents & Settings (I can do Everyone’s Documents and Let Me
Choose, but it won’t work on All Information)
3. Select the external hard drive initial and type the Job Name
4. Select Advanced
5. Click Next on Type of Backup leave Normal set
6. Click Next with no selection on How to Backup
7. On the Backup Options screen, if I select Append and select Later in the
When to Backup I enter the Job Name. If at this point I click Next it
presents me with the Set Account Information screen. I enter the password
twice as required and I get the error message ‘An error occurred while
attempting to set task information. The specific error is 0x80070005 Access
is denied. You do not have permission to perform the requested operation.’
Even if I select Replace on the Backup Option screen and tick the Allow only
the owner etc to access I get the same error message.

The only way I can get it to work is by doing a manual update. If you can
help further I’d be grateful.

Hi JR13,

I've cottoned on to setting myself up as the Administrator and have now
succeeded in scheduleing the backup. Hopefully tomorrow morning I'll be able
to cxonfirm that it's worked. It still won't allow me to backup all
information, it says it cannot create the files for the diskette.

Glad you're making some progress. I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you.
I am certainly not an expert, but I did have the same problem with that error
message that you were getting, and was able to solve it by giving myself
Administrator rights. Good luck to you. If you continue to have more
problems, I'd suggest you start a new thread and hope to get a reply from
someone with more knowledge that I have.
