Avira Wont Register

I just downloaded avira free version, when I try to install it sets up to register, so it can start the install. I immediately get a dialog box that says it requires a secure connection and has a short list of things to check.
Ihave checked those things. All seems to be in order but it wont connect to the internet, even though I'm already online. What am I doing wrong?
