Auto update problem

T

Teriel9

When Autoupdate is enabled there are multiple DCOM errors in the event
viewer.
When disabled I get the following error message
"The Automatic updates service failed to start due to the following error:
The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not
implement the service"
I went to the recommended MS site, but could not understand the fix given.
Can anyone please help
Win XP Home SP2
TIA

Can anyone please suggest another forum which may deal with my problem?

That's just a redirect link ... i.e. it goes through MS servers but does
not contain a URL. Was it this convoluted fix ?:

How to resolve problems that occur with the JET component and with the
MDAC component
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870630

The DCOM errors *may* be a result of misconfigured services or a firewall.
Please go to Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Post the last 40 or so lines of the log.
