DCOM Error 10005 as shown in Event Viewer

I get the following error every few hours:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "
attempting to start the service wuauserv with arguments "" in order to
run the server:
{E60687F7-01A1-40AA-86AC-DB1CBF673334}"

I don't understand why winxp would want to start the service wuauserv
when I've stopped "auto updates" under control panel/administrative
tools/services.

I have also checked "Turn off automatic updates" under Control Panel/
System/Autoupdates.

Other than the annoying DCOM error messages, my pc seems to be okay in
terms of speed. I'm using winxp SP3. But I'm not sure whether I should
just ignore the DCOM errors or try to get rid of them.

Any help would be much appreciated. I've googled for several days
without success.

Thank you.

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive
an "Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP
or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

You do not need autopatcher.

Select Start, Control Panel, Automatic Updates uncheck Automatic and
check "Notify me but don't automatically download or install". When
notified commence the process by selecting Start, Help and Support, Keep
your computer up-to-date with Windows Update and opt for a Custom
install.
