Audio problem

Hi!
I think I'm suffering a little bit unusual problem. I have a
Windows XP Home system with a double core Athlon processor.
Sometimes,
the sound becomes very distant and distorted, and choirs and voices
can't be heard. It happens with any kind of sound sources (CD's,
games, MP3...)
I detected this problem with the integrated audio chip, an AC'97
Realtek codec. I installed a PCI sound card, a Sound Blaster
CreativePCI, but it also has the same errors.
I've tried almost everything, but nothing works. The fails are
intermittent and random, and I have run out of ideas.

Could you tell me something to get out of this situation? Any help
will be very, very appreciated...

Thanks a lot!

Sounds like you have a sound processor "helping" you out a little. I
had a similar problem on my Toshiba laptop, there is an application
called "TOSHIBA Virtual Sound" that is used to configure emulation of
surround sound. When it was set wrong, all the center channel sound
from movies was way too quiet. Realtek also has an equalizer that can
be configured with their utilities. It can distort audio if its not set
right too.

Look for applications related to audio in your programs menu, they
usually come from the system manufacturer (e.g. I have a "Toshiba" menu
under START->All Programs). Or look in the control panel for "Sounds
and Audio Devices", "Realtek HD Sound Effects", or something similar.

Good luck,

Have you tried a different set of speakers?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Sorry for my english (i'm spanish), i hope i can express myself quite
correctly...
Unfortunately i've tried all of those things before. If it were caused
by the sound processor, i think the problem should've been solved when
i added the PCI sound card and uninstalled the old software. But the
fails happen the same with both audio chips.
And i've also tried to replace the speakers... and the problems
persisted.

Thanks anyway, guys! i'll keep on trying...
