Not sure on my Asus P5QL-CM Motherboard if its the North or South Bridge chip that controls the HDD?
Currently on my 2nd WD 1.0TB Blue HDD in a year or so as last one seemed to die, however it seems its the PC?
So not sure if the HDD chipset is on it's way out, anyway to check using a utility or will it just die?

Tested last HDD on another PC and all is fine with it so must be the controller on the MB??

If it goes again might buy a new pc as this one is 7yrs old now and in need of an upgrade on at least RAM??

If the old HDD works ok on another PC and the new HDD is still problematic on the motherboard, it may be time to swap the motherboard out. However, if it's 7 years old then it may be worth buying a a new PC if you're likely to upgrade soon anyway.
