I'm afraid you can't educate ANY of the users, other than
the types who would follow a prejudiced moron like you. You
will be exposed anywhere you spread your hate and prejudiced
teenie minded sloth in public. Go back and look for that
used sock - you need it.
Oh, and if you think you're pissing anyone off, you
arean't: Children like you aren't taken very seriously. I
am glad however that you are not my neighbor.

And all five posts you made to this thread have made as much a helpful
contribution to this thread as a screen door would to a submarine.

The point is very simple. If you keep your system updated, the firewall on and
DO Not open unknown attachments you do NOT have to mess up your computer
installing AV programs. Past performance? Have had personal computers since
early eighties.

U

Unknown

Your so stupid you can't converse without namecalling. The fact remains anyone
with a little intelligence does not need to spend money on AV programs.

U

Unknown

You're so ignorant. Why don't you go to school. Take some courses on how to
win friends and influence people. Learn how to converse using facts instead of
emotion and learn how to talk without name calling. Where were you raised??

U

Unknown

Ever talk to anyone without name calling? I bet you have loads of friends.

I know about computers and software, that's precisely why I don't need AV
programs and don't get viruses.

You are missing the point entirely. How do you KNOW 100% that an attachment
you get from a KNOWN source is virus free without scanning it yourself? Your
KNOWN source may be infected without them knowing it - it happens all the
time!

U

Unknown

You say it happens all the time. Where do you get your statistics? In at least
22 years I have NEVER gotten one. That's MY statistic.

Well I think you have been VERY lucky.

Well you are probably in a minority tending to one then.
I can't find any actual statistics, but if you go a google on this subject,
there are HUNDREDS of articles talking about viruses being received in
attachments from known sources. What about Mellissa? That sent out viral
attachments from the infectee's addressbook - ie a KNOWN source to the
recipients. That's how it spread so widely in the first place - because
people opened an infected attachment from a KNOWN source without thinking!

That can only occur (correct me if I'm wrong) if your friends and/or relatives
have been infected and their addressbook has been hijacked. None of us (and
there are many) have ever been infected. Just read these news groups and
you'll see all the problems caused by AV programs from failures to update to
slowing down the computers etc. Be 100% honest, have you ever gotten a virus?

No I haven't but I run Avast!

You are actually showing your own arrogance and ignorance. With the
predominance of viruses, worms, trojans, keyloggers, malwares, and dialers
that are running wild, you would be a fool not to afford yourself the
protection of a reputable AV program. No one cares how smart you *think*
you are. Your very words show just how limited your knowledge is.

You are missing the point entirely. I wear a seatbelt every time I drive,
yet I have not had an accident in over 30 years. You are the one who is
"being so ostentatious". You may be happy going your merry way without any
AV protection, but that does not give you the right to tell others that it
is "okay" to do so themselves. Most of us live in the real world, where we
are intelligent enough to use the tools available to us. The point has
never been whether you have ever had a virus (and we have only YOUR word on
this), but your preaching that AV protection is unnecessary. You can take
all the chances you like...it is your right and your prerogative. But to
counsel others to take the same dangerous attitude as yours is irresponsible
at best. Not everyone is as "smart" as you claim to be. If you were truly
intelligent, you would have understood the current of this thread instead of
repeatedly posting "I have never had a virus...yada yada yada". I don't
care if you have ever had a virus. Personally, I hope you learn, the hard
way, the folly of your ways. But that is not important to this thread. You
should not tell neophytes that AV is not necessary. They are the ones most
vulnerable and most in need of protection. That way, they can learn more
about the wonderful device that is sitting on their desktop without the
frustration of being infected because of their inexperience.

In closing, I respect your right to do as you please, and to say what you
believe. But when what you post could cause someone else to adopt unsafe
computer practices, then you have overstepped the bounds of your "freedom".
There are people in this world who practice a form of thrill seeking called
train-dodging. They will stand on a track as a train approaches and will
wait until the last possible moment to jump out of the way of the train.
While they may enjoy this practice, if they were to try to convince children
to do the same, it would be unacceptable. That is what you have done with
your "preaching".

I have to admit I've been using a home computer on the web for about 20
years (although back then I don't think it was called the WWW), without any
virus software and have never gotten a virus.
