Am I updated or not?

Hello, sorry to trouble you but I have a question.
Can somebody tell me if I have the current versions of WD?
I'm asking this because for ages I have not seen the WD say that it is
updating!!
Only this morning, in fact 10 minutes ago, I saw a thread which gave a link
to a def update. I clciked this and the sig changed from 1.14.1436.4 to
1.14.1452.3
However, just before, I clicked the check for updates from the help menu of
WD, and was told no new updates available!!!
How can I always update manually? If I try via the program it always says no
updates!!!
Thank you for your time and trouble!!

My specs are
WD Version 1..1.1051.0
Engine Vers 1.1.1372.0
Sig Version 1.14.1452.3

PS. Is there anyway to get back the MS Giant Antispy?
Sorry to say this but that was a lot better and I never had any problems
like I'm having with this one!!

Hi Andrew,

You do not have the latest version of WD now at 1.1.1347.0 which was
released on 4/12 I think. The application itself is not offered by way of the
update service - only the Engine and Defs. Try downloading from:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

As for Microsoft Antispyware. That will expire on 7/31 and the last I read,
users will be offered an upgrade anyway to WD by way of its update service.
My advice would be to stick with WD.

Andrew--can you try something for me and post results?

Go to Help, about, in Windows Defender, and do a Check for Updates.

After that has returned "no updates available.", can you do start. run:

notepad %windir%\windowsupdate.log

scroll to the very end of this log file, and then work back to the beginning
of that last update attempt. Cut and paste just that tail end of the log
file to a response in this thread. Let's see if we can tell what is
happening.

OK Bill, I have tried to update via the program in about.
At the end I have pasted the log as requested. However, in the log for
yesterday there are many different errors in it. If you want me to I can post
it in another reply!!
The story so far!!!
I have always tried to update via the program but have always been told that
no new definitions or engine updates were ready! I tried to update again
yesterday with the same reply!! I started this thread, got several replies (
as you can see) and I also found another thread that suggested to download
directly! This I did and my Signatures changed from 1.14.1436.4 to
1.14.1452.3 despite the program saying that there were no new updates!! I
hope you can help!!

This looks like AU was throttling the update. I know that we are not
supposed to be throttled so I will take this up with the AU team.

The story so far!!!
I have always tried to update via the program but have always been told
that
no new definitions or engine updates were ready! I tried to update again
yesterday with the same reply!! I started this thread, got several replies
(
as you can see) and I also found another thread that suggested to download
directly! This I did and my Signatures changed from 1.14.1436.4 to
1.14.1452.3 despite the program saying that there were no new updates!! I
hope you can help!!

The story so far!!!
I have always tried to update via the program but have always been told

no new definitions or engine updates were ready! I tried to update again
yesterday with the same reply!! I started this thread, got several
replies (
as you can see) and I also found another thread that suggested to

directly! This I did and my Signatures changed from 1.14.1436.4 to
1.14.1452.3 despite the program saying that there were no new updates!! I
hope you can help!!

How long you take to reply doesn't matter to me. Just that you do in the
end!! LOL
Anyway, is it possible to donwload the updates myself and install them? I
tried to find the download page in the link that Stu gave in his reply but I
couldn't find the download page for the updates...
I tried another update this morning but it still said that there are no
updates.
Everything about the specs of Defender is the same as my first post ie
WDV 1.1.1051.0 Eng V. 1.1.1372.0 Sig V. 1.14.1452.3

Andrew--in your case, you are one version back on the main Windows Defender
code. So this is how I'd proceed:

1) Update to the newer code (this isn't being auto-distributed, and no
notice has been sent out--it's just available at the web site--so you didn't
miss any notice of availability)

(just run the download--it'll install over and update the current version.
Spynet membership will revert to basic or lower, as you choose during
installation. If you want advanced, you'll need to go into Tools, and
change it, after the install.)

2) Once you've installed the newer code, use the troubleshooting KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355

(and 915105 to which it links) Lets see whether the "standard methods" take
care of it.

And let us know how it goes.
