About WD not updating this may be interesting

This may be interesting for some to know.

I am also having the same issue of WD not updating on any machines in my
organization, I have even checked the Firewall logs and watched the FW after
i told WD to update and the interesting thing i saw was absolutely nothing.
There was absolutely nothing coming from anything on that machine trying to
get out of the firewall.

I had a friend of mine do this same test within his organization and he
said that he saw traffic leaving his FW. and he said that all his WD install
have updated.

i have tried everything that has been mentioned here from auto detect proxy
(and not auto detect) to adding the sites to my trusted zones, with
absolutely no luck.

The one thing i have noticed and this is the intersting part. Is that WD
uses update services to get it's updates. The reason i think this is
interesting is I have a WSUS server and a group policy on my DC that tells
all my machines to go there for the updates.

are the people here that are having the not updating issue also running WSUS
servers? this may be the problem. (my friend does not run a WSUS server).

I am having the same issue with updating. We are running the SUS server not
WSUS because we are getting ready to install SMS 2003 and get rid of SUS all
together. I am still researching the problem and will post once I find a
solution. Feels like a proxy or firewall issue. We run ISA server here for
the firewall.

UPDATE!

This is caused by having a locally installed WSUS server. Since my machine
is pointing to my internal WSUS server via AD Group Policies, Windows
Defender was trying to retrieve it's updates from there.

In the Synchronization Options, I needed to add Windows Defender to the list
of Products, and Defnintion Updates to the Update classifications. I then
ran a sync and once my machine checked in and updated, Windows Defender was
current.
