hello.. its a update prob again ive uninstalled the first beta would not
update, & installed the latest beta the one that gives the option to have
icon in taskbar, wd interface is saying -

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1372.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1404.6

ive manually updated many times it comes back saying updated latest sig
successfull, express update tells me theres update ready so i install but wd
interface is still the same Definition Version: 1.14.1404.6
should i use the windows installer clean up to remove the sig 1.14.1404.6.
i carnt work out why 2 different betas are struggleing to update ive never
had this prob with my other spykillers, im thinking of uninstalling wd &
activating real time on spywaredoctor... thanks in advance

Hi Mickyfinn,

i have all the Updates (XP home) but this dll is not on mine PC!
I think that you are right that it is(was) part of genuine notification
update. If it is not badering you let it there, or try to find it with
regedit and look what it really does on your PC,else try to remove it.

FWIW--I have that .dll file on my system, which has that new update that you
mention.

Both the .dll file and wgatray.exe are digitally signed by Microsoft on
April 10th.

I think this is legit.

Hi Tom

Wgalogon and Wgatray is OK, MS shareholders and Ballmer needs
more profit...... probably Ozzies idea ;)

We have been running this check since october/november last year.

http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=32972

MS using nagware against pirates ;) and now they rolls it out to more
countries. Also probably causing a lot of Windowsupdate headaches.

Every month now it´s a never ending "cat and rat" game between MS and
pirates. It takes an hour or two for the pirates to deliever a
new cracked wgatool.

Towards TPM ;)

Hi Plun,

Thanks for that info, so the Dutch did not get it at this moment, but
thats just for the moment, the next time i download Defender i got it
also maybe! Today i got "HelpWithWindows Newsletter" and there the
advice this at the moment! Because of the trouble some patches give!

My suggestion: Turn OFF Automatic Updates! Let others test Microsoft
patches, so that we can get on with our work, and install patches after
about a week. If you keep an eye on the microsoft.public.windowsupdate
newsgroup after the monthly patch-cycle, you'll know quickly enough if
the latest patches are causing problems or not.

I suggest you set Automatic Updates to: Download updates for me, but let
me choose when to install them. You can check/change these settings from
the Automatic Updates tab from the System control panel applet

Hi Tom

I would say "turn on" if you are running WD !

It´s a damned mess with Windowsupdate beacuse of this.

Also all IE6 and IE7 with non set security zones.
For some unknown reason MS doesn´t set them to default.
I cannot figure our why ???

MS is really losing users thrust with an never ending mess
with everything.

Maybe Ballmer and Ozzie is totally wrong.........

Time for Ubuntu again ;)

Guides for Vistan..... check the TPM guide.

MSFT share will go down as a "stone" if TPM is the future.

MS and the industry tries to blow the world ;)

Thanks--I was forgetting that this was not worldwide--that's why it has a
strange EULA. It has interesting effects--let me see if I can find the
reference with pictures:

http://star-techcentral.com/tech/story.asp?file=/2006/4/25/prodit/14029720&sec=prodit

On the plus side--if you dig through the URLs in certain circumstances in
some locations, you can get a free licensed copy of Windows in exchange for
your pirated copy if you can document that you were ripped off by a reseller
well enough to help Microsoft go after them.

Hi Bill

Well..... I don´t believe that so many users have bought a PC without
a real license.

In Sweden we can buy a XP Pro license for $140 from MS if a user can
show that he/she bought if from a svindler, "Underground in Moscow"...
;)

It´s also probably that we have a family challenge with 2 or 3 PCs
within a household and maybe 2 of them are licensed and the 3rd is a
pirate copy.

MS opened up with One Care licenses but they are probably too greedy
to make such licenses also for XP.

So this "cat and rat" game will go on........ for sure ! (ends in
TPM)

Glad to see my KB seems to be working. I do not expect that it will work in
all cases, so if it does not handle something, let me know and I will edit
it.
