I installed the admin pack for windows 2000 server on my
xp pro box and im trying to use active directory users
and computers and i get the following error:

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name: <unknown>
CLSID:{E355E538-1C2E-11D0-8C37-00C04FD8FE93}

I looked on the kb articles and found article 826282 but
the proposed solution doesnt work for me. I already have
the information in my path variable. Anyone got any
suggestions?? Thanks!

The Windows 2000 adminpak is not supported on Windows XP.
You need to use the adminpak from Windows Server 2003.
You can download it from the download site, just search for Windows Server
2003 and adminpak.mis
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en
Product/Technology Windows Server 2003
Keyword adminpak.msi

I realize this may not be supported but I have 10 other
users that this installation has worked fine for. I am
just hoping someone else has seen this and can offer a
suggestion other than server2003. Thanks!

Forgot to say thank you the server2003 cd does work but
im just curious why one out of 10 users with identical
hardware/software setups wont take the 2000 server setup.

Non of them should be using the Windows 2000 adminpak - you are risking your
entire Active Directory by using tools that are not designed to be run on
the PC using them to manage your environment.
I cannot comment on why you have been able to run the 2000 tolls but you
really should remove them and replace them with the 2003 tools if you are
running on Windows XP Professional.
