Adding Xbox Live to My Home Network

My current network is as follows: I have a Linksys A & G Router, and a cable
modem. I have a laptop and a desktop on that network, both wirelessly. My
son got the xbox live and I hard wired the xbox into my router and it worked
great but seemed to take away from the laptop and the deskop.

I have been reading up on Network Switches and I think that maybe that would
be the best way to go. I would hard wire the xbox and the computer into the
network switch and router. The laptop would stay wireless. Does this sound
like the right thing to do? Should I get a network switch? From what I read,
they are good for when you have multiple things on your network. I've never
used one before. I am aiming to recieve the best connection I can get for my
network for all devices.

Any input is appreciated.

This is off-topic for this newsgroup; try
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web.

Nevertheless, you already have a switched network in the router. The
problem is that your bandwidth is shared among all connected computers
and there is nothing to be done to improve performance except a tier of
service with more bandwidth.
