3 accounts, but Outlook only sends with Hotmail account

George Adams

I have 3 different accounts setup within a single profile
in Outlook 2003. 2 of them are traditional ISP POP3
accounts, while the last is Hotmail. So for example, I'll
have these settings:

Account 1
login: foo
email: (e-mail address removed)
POP: pop.firstsite.com
SMTP: smtp.firstsite.com

Account 2
login: bar
email: (e-mail address removed)
POP: pop.secondsite.com
SMTP: smtp.secondsite.com

Account 3
login: (e-mail address removed)

I have no problem receiving mail on any of the three
accounts, and the automatic Outlook "outgoing message"
(SMTP) test worked on all three accounts as well,
confirming that I have the right incoming/outgoing logins
and passwords for all 3 accounts.

When I go to send a message, I can choose any one of the
three acocunts (Account 1, Account 2, Account 3) from the
"Accounts" pulldown box. Outlook then puts up a little
alert bar saying that the message will be sent from the
account that I've chosen.

However, no matter which account I choose, Outlook will
ALWAYS send the message through my Hotmail account. The
recipient will say that the message came from
(e-mail address removed) (instead of, for example,
(e-mail address removed)) and inspection of the full headers
reveals that the message did indeed go through the Hotmail
servers (instead of through smtp.secondsite.com)

So, why is Outlook not using the correct SMTP server (and
e-mail address) associated with the account I choose when
I'm sending the message?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I suspect that you need to set up authentication to your outgoing server on
the other two accounts. You can do that on the "outgoing server" tab for
those accounts.
