I have just removed netscape mail from my computer and
have started using outlook express. When I removed
Netscape there was 15 unread mail message. Now ever time
I reach the login screen it says there are 15 unread mail
messages waiting for me.... even thought there are none!

Do you know how I can fix this at all...

Thanks

Hi

You can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and when
installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to
Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Hi Carson,

Are you sure this is from Netscape? Am not sure it had this ability. It
could be Messenger, etc. Either way this is where the key is stored to tell
you which address is storing the count and how to correct it:

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

Passport:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Or....

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)

The free TweakUI can fix this, and do many other useful things.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
(if you have SP1 installed)

or

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
(if you don't have SP1).
