100% CPU after critical updates

Has anyone had any slowness issues after loading critical updates? On a
Windows 2000 SP4 box, I loaded about a dozen updates and after rebooting the
task manager shows system taking 100% CPU utilization, even in safe mode.
I've left the computer up for several hours but it never gets better. I
restored to a previous backup, but everytime I do the crit updates this
happens. If I have to I'll go through and do them one at a time until I
find the culprit, but I figured I check here to see if anyone else has had
this happen and if they know what update caused it. Thanks.
