Yes, sorry I did not metion that. I suspect that may be part of the
problem.
I have run into some other "issues" with the 64 bit Vista upgrade I did
(my
Epson 2450 scanner does not work because no 64 bit driver is out there
yet,
my Adobe Flashplayer is not 64 bit, things like that). I am sure once
everyone has upgraded to 64 bit systems then there will be no issues.

I thought so.

When I googled SystemBadImageFormatException
all the pages found seemed to involve 64bit processors.

I have informed the author of Wmutil and will repost when or if there is a
solution.

Meanwhile you should consider...

http://get.live.com/en-us/betas/maildesktop_betas

I use it and prefer it to WM.

ps.
There will ALWAYS be issues so long as software
is written and used by humans.

When you installed AVG, did you use the custom install option
whereby you can decline installation of the email scanning module?
If it was installed with the default email scanning option, uninstall,
then reinstall as indicated.

Well I loaded Windows Live and now get this error message (can't win for
losing)

The error message is:
An unknown error was returned from the SMTP server. Subject 'Read: DON CASE
FILE NO. 200700275 and 200700793', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'SMTP.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '556 null byte in data',
Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC61

Any ideas?

Thanks Bob

Other people have had it with Eudora and on Macs and in addition
to what Gary said, ie. a Comcast thing, another suggestion was a problem
something in a signature... have you got a weird signature attached?

Anyway... here's one suggestion about the Comcast travel problem...

To reconfigure Windows Mail for use when not on the Comcast
network:

Tools > Accounts > your email > Properties > General >

ensure that the email address and Reply address
are set to your @Comcast.net email address

On the Servers tab, click My Server Requires Authentication and then
click Settings. Please note: Do NOT check the "Log On Using Secure
Password Authentication" box. In the Outgoing Mail Server window, select
Log On Using, enter your @Comcast.net email address and password and
click OK

On the Advanced tab, click This Server Requires A Secure Connection
(SSL) for both the incoming and outgoing servers
Make sure the port is 465 in the Outgoing mail port number field and
995 in the Incoming mail port number field

Click Apply

Click OK

Make sure email scanning is disabled in AVG.
Did you follow these instructions for Wmutil?

If Windows Mail is open, or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the
Database functions are disabled, and the WinMail.exe process must be
terminated before these features can become available. (If WinMail is closed
and these buttons still remain disabled, then perform a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)

How did you 'install' WMUtil? It doesn't really require installation,
but it downloads as a .ZIP file, and the contents needs to be extracted.
You should wind up with two files in the same folder, wmutil.exe and
scxout.dll. Make sure they are together in the same folder when you
run wmutil.exe.

Thanks Gary - this worked on my Mum's PC. Funnily enough, I had the same
problem with my Vista mail a while ago and this didn't work for me. Steve
Cochrane had another suggestion, which was to delete the Mail Account and set
up a new one. This worked for me, but not for my Mum. Quite bizarre that
the same problem has so many different potential solutions.

Any word on when MS are planning a fix?

Thanks for the great work you guys do on this site - I'm quite sure you're
under-appreciated, but your advice is fantastic.

I'm having this problem, too. I just got my computer, and I tried the
download suggested, however it says that my computer does not need it. I
have added the new e-mail account, deleted my old one, and it still won't
send my messages! Very frustrating...please help!

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is no check mark in the
box before Send messages immediately, click on this box and then Apply.
Click on OK.

This fix often helps with similar problems so you might try it. Download
and
install it with Windows Mail not running.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. If either version works,
remember where to find it - you probably have antivirus software that
will cause the problem again, so you'll need to apply the fix again.
