Scroll-bar clicks move screen too far

S

Scott S.

I'm using the latest upgrade of IE-6.0.2800 and have
recently noticed that mouse-clicking either above or below
the scroll-bar causes the page to scroll more than one
page-up or page-down, meaning I potentially miss page-
content. However, using the Page-Up or Page-Down keyboard
keys scrolls normally. I've noticed this problem on all
three of my different machines, two of which are running
98 and one is running XP-Home, all with the latest service-
pack updates installed.

Any suggestions to correct this - or was this an
intentional change to IE?

Thanks, Scott

This behavior is caused by a bug in a recent IE patch (Q824145). MS is supposedly aware of this bug and we can only hope that a future patch will correct it.

Some workarounds:
Use PageUp and PageDown keys
Use keyboard shortcuts; Spacebar to scroll down and Shift+Spacebar to scroll up.

For some reason each time I click my mouse on the sidebar

OK Ron, hope you like the name 'Neil' (only kidding).
I've done a little digging and apparently this
scrolling 'feature' is caused
by some faulty coding in the latest IE6 security update.
If you can live
without the update for a while until MS fix the problem
just go to
Start>>Control Panel>>Add/Remove Programs and scroll down
to highlight IE6
update Q824145 and click on Remove. After a reboot your
scrolling should
return to normal - mine has, phew.
