Missing Run Command

D

Don

..I am running Windows XP Professional on my laptop. I had need to enter a Run
command and found the Run option missing from the Start menu. So, I
right-clicked on Start, selected Properties, then the Start Menu tab, then
Customize, then the Advanced tab. Under the Start Menu items, I scrolled down
and found the Run Command has a check in the box next to it. Yet, there is no
Run command in the Start menu. How do I get it back?

Don

Alan:
I downloaded the registry change you suggested, restarted the computer, and
the Run command is still missing from the Start menu. Again, I went tnrough
the same procedure I had described previously, found the Run box checked, but
still no Run command.

Hi Don,
Did you Reboot your Machine after applying the Reg file?

/************* IF YOU HAVE XP Pro *********/
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the "C:WindowsSystem32" directory.
Within this directory, locate the "gpedit.msc" file and double-click on it

open gpedit.msc
Locate:
[$]user configuration
[-] Administrative Templates
[&] Start Menu and Taskbar = look in the right pane/window for this option

Click on [^]Remove run menu from start menu Righ click it and select
Properties.
On Remove run menu from start menu Properties make sure to check this Radio
Button:
(*) Not Configured
Click [OK] and Out .
Restart the machine, do you get your Run command back?

===

Another to Try is:
Find C:\Windows\System32\Regedt32.exe by opeining Windows Explorer and
double click [Regedit.exe],and locate this key
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer =
Delete the value "NoRun" if present in the right-hand pane/window.
Do the same in this key
[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer =
Delete the value "NoRun" if present in the right-hand pane/window.
.. Restart your machine and see if you can access the Run command. Do you
have the Run command back?

If the above did n't help then your machine infected by malware/viruses and
you need to run<sorry to mention Run LOL> a through scan on your machine.
Also you can try to test by creating another account with Adin privileges
and see if that will get the run command on the Start Menu.
HTH,
nass

Nass and Alan (and Kelly) :
After I sent my last message, I read a response Kelly wrote to someone
having the same problem. He suggested that if there are too many items listed
in the Start menu, the Run Command is the first to go. So, I went back and
eliminated a few commands we don't use and bingo, the Run Command reappeared.
Problem solved. Thanks to everyone for their help. Have a Merry Christmas.

One would hope so, with the name of Kelly. I doubt if any guys are named

Moreover, Kelly is a fairly common last name, and men with that last
name are sometimes called that.

<runs fingers over piano keyboard>

Michael Kelly with his sweetheart came from County Cork
And bent upon a holiday they landed in New York
They strolled around to see the sights, alas, it's sad to say
Poor Kelly lost his little girl along the Great White Way
She walked uptown from Herald Square to Forty-Second Street
The traffic stopped as she cried to the copper on the beat--

[All together]

Has any one here seen Kelly?
K-E-double L-Y.
Has anybody here seen Kelly?
Have you seen him smile?
Sure, his hair is red, his eyes are blue,
And he's Irish through and through!
Has anybody here seen Kelly?
Kelly from the Emerald Isle!

<Rescues fingers just in time as piano lid is slamed shut>

OK OK, I'll shut up.
