Command failed to excecute for attachments

I recently received the "command failed to execute" message when I tried to
open an attachment on an e-mail that I had previously opened w/o problems.
Why is this? And what do I do to be able to open the attmnt once again?

Make sure you're not running one of the non-compatible
antivirus programs, McAfee or Norton.

What kind of attachments?
What program should they open in?
What is the attachment's extension?

I have the same problem today and received the same message. The files I'm
trying to open are PDF files that I e-mailed a couple of months ago.( 5 of
them on 5 different e-mails ) They won't open now and I can't forward the
e-mails. ( when I click on the forward button nothing happens ) I opened all
of these files last week.
I also received a new e-mail today with an attachment with the same problem.

Make sure your Windows Mail is configured to handle attachments:
Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Not being able to open PDF attachments in Windows Mail is quite
common (mine does the same). All you can do is save the attachment
and open the saved file outside of Windows Mail.

i had the same thing happen today, for the first time. it was just a wmv
file. I just figured that it was another of MANY problems im having with
Vista. I hate it, but anyway, all i did was "SAVE AS" and put it on my
desktop. It opened fine from there. I dont know what the difference could be,
but it worked. Probably just another on "quirk" that comes with my unwanted
copy of Vista that was installed ion my lap top when i bought it.

I encountered the same problem and tried all the solutions on this site to no
avail. I finally restored my computerto the date prior to my last windows
update and it solved the problem. Microsofts update might have been the
problem. I deleted windows live mail and went back to windows mail. Hope this
helps.

I was looking for an answer to this same subject and then I saw your name.
Are you related to Pulley's in Texas. I know there is a relation with your
same name. Do you want to tell me what part of Texas you have relatives (if
that is the case). Thank you.

to Howard Pulley,
I was looking for the answer to the question you posted. I don't have an
answer but I saw your name and wondered if you are related to the Pulley's
in Texas? If you are, let me know the area and family. I know I have a
family member named Howard Pulley.

The only thing that worked for me was to use the restore feature and restore
my computer to a date prior when it was working properly. I did that and lost
no data and when I reopened my mail box i could open the attachments again.
Then what I did is disable automatic updates so tthat I am alerted when there
is an update and I can decide to aloow it or not. Hope this helps.

I got the same exact thing as everyone else here with word docs, excel files,
PDFs, you name it...and I tried all of the solutions. I even tried to do the
system restore but got an error message saying it wouldn't restore properly.
In addition, I have Norton, but have had that all along so that's not the
problem either. Any advice?

The Norton antivirus programs are often rather slow about causing problems
in Windows Mail, such as months before the problems appear.
