command failed to execute

I opened my windows mail this morning. As many others have done. The
"command failed to execute" came up when I tried to open a pdf or adobe
file. I have never had trouble opening them before. So? I looked at
another e-mail that had a pdf/adobe file attached and the same thing
happened.

Could someone please advise. I went threw the posts and seems everyone
thinks it is connected with their anti virus. I run Previx and have for
several years. No updates to it lately and never a problem such as this. I
made sure the security box was unchecked. Which it was.

That's a known issue that is affecting some who installed IE8.
One workaround is to uninstall IE8, which reverts you back to IE7.
Even without uninstalling IE8 you can usually make it work for all but
TXT and JPG attachments by doing the following:

Right-click on the shortcut that you use to open Windows Mail.
Select Properties. In the field labeled 'Start in' change the existing
value to %UserProfile%. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail and try opening
attachments.

Is it just PDF attachments?
How about other file types, especially TXT and JPG files?

If it's only PDFs:
Which reader are you using?
In case you are working with Adobe reader, run a Repair (from the
reader's Help menu).

If other file types are affected too, you are bitten by the IE8-WinMail
bug which affects many (though not all) systems after installing IE8.
It can be cured by uninstalling IE8 wir reduced by applying the
workaround Gary posted.

A wrong impression. For sure not "everyone" - just PA Bear who
unfortunately has been spreading his wild theories all around for quite
a while (without any proof) {siiiigh}.
The problem is not to related to AV software. it appears - f.e. - on
two of my systems which have never seen any "security" software (except
the built-OneNote Defender and Windows firewall)-

Just do as Gary advised.
