can't clear history bar in IE6

In IE6 I have been unable to completely clear my cached
history (in the address bar). I have used Tools/Internet
Options/General Tab/"Clear History" but it doesn't clear
everything out. Even though the history bar appears to be
blank, when I type the first letter of a URL, it pulls up
certain sites that I can't seem to get rid of. I've even
gone into the registry to see if I can find the sites
that it is "remembering," but I can't locate them. Any
thoughts on how to clear my history completely?

try this.

After clearing your history files like you did go to the
Content tab and click AutoComplete. In the box that shows
up, uncheck Web Addresses.

Yes, I cleared that too. The problem seems to be that
certain addresses, such as some of the sites in
my "Favorites" list, still pop up when I type the first
letter of them into the address bar. That happens even
though the address bar is blank when I click on the down
arrow on the right-hand side of the bar. If it were just
the "Favorites" sites that were appearing, I could
obviously try deleting them, but it's various other sites
too. I can't figure out where they are hiding.

Have you tried IE-Tools-Internet Options-Content- AutoComplete?

Thanks, that IS a little different than what I've tried.
I'll try it this evening (can't do it now) and see if it
fixes the problem. It's very strange b/c it's only a few
web addresses that show up, such as "webmail.aol.com,"
which I don't even use. I have no idea why.
