History Won't Clear

Hi,

I'm running IE6 on two machines. One is XPHome, and one is XPPro.

My problem is that I can't always get the history pane to clear. (The
history in the address bar clears fine.) It's been happening more and more
lately. I've tried to clear the history pane 5 times so far, and it won't
budge.

I do Tools, Internet Options, Clear History, Yes, OK. The history in the
address bar is cleared, and the history pane is cleared, but when I leave
IE, and re-launch, it's back in the history pane. The history bar remains
clear.

Any ideas?

Bruce,
With no IE windows open, try it from Control Panel> Internet Options>
General> Clear History.

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Another program might be locking your history.

The ActiveX filter feature of McAfee AV interferes with the IE History, but
it usually prevents history entries rather than preventing deletion. But you
might disable it, if it's installed.
