History Won't Clear

I'm running XPHome, SP2, and IE6.

When I do Tools\Internet options\Clear history, only the history in the
Address box (URL) clears. The left side drop down list of sites that I've
visited is still there.

What's wrong?

That's AutoComplete, not History: Tools>Internet
Options>Content>AutoComplete

I probably didn't explain it correctly.

The autocomplete is still enabled, and all of the addresses in the
address dropdown window are indeed gone. That's not the problem.

It's when I press the History button and the panel on the left opens
that allows me to sort the history of places visited by date, site, most
visited, and order visited. All of the links in this panel are still
there.

But, I did some googling and found:

I closed my AIM, and was then able to clear my history.

I also ran into this:

I don't know why programs like AIM and WeatherWatcher (I don't use it)
have to be closed to clear history.
