Please help! I cannot move messages out of OUTBOX. Isn't there an easy
solution to this??

If Windows Mail is open, or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the
Database functions are disabled, and the WinMail.exe process must be
terminated before these features can become available. (If WinMail is closed
and these buttons still remain disabled, then perform a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)

That doesn't repair the database, that destroys it. And it generates issues
with Recovered files for many people.

Where do you find the outbox directory in Explorer>

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\Outbox

Note that you will have to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and
folders (Tools | Folder Options | View in Windows Explorer).

Thank you so much! I did this "backward" way of fixing this problem (I had
the EXACT problem that is all over these message boards of a bad email stuck
in the outbox keeping everything else from sending and did your idea and it
works GREAT. I have spent hours trying to do all these techy solutions which
are over my head anyway, and this one I did in a couple of minutes with no
problem. I got all my emails sent. I have no problem clicking "No" every
time I send an email, as long as I can send an email. thanks a lot!! I am
so happy now, all is well in email land. thank you, Julie

I had the same problem. I fixed it by renaming the Windows Mail directory to
WindowsMail, running the repair, and then renaming the directory back. The
command propmpt running Dos will not recognize the space in the command
directory string and breaks there.

Can someone explain 1. why this problem exists and 2. Why MS can't issue an
update to Vista that will fix the problem?

What exactly is the backward way - I am confused - did I miss the
directions!!!! I am not that Tech savvy! Thanks

I have yet to figure out how to fix this problem.
It's been several weeks since this has occurred
to my e-mail - and I still cannot send e-mails.
I cannot believe how many people are having
this same problem, with no solution!
It's QUITE FRUSTRATING!

Not sure how you could have missed it, but the solution to the
stuck Outbox problem is posted here about a dozen times per day.
Download WMUtil and use its Clear Outbox function. Be sure
to read all the directions on the site:

Steve,
I did exactly what you suggested below. I downloaded the location below from
windows. When I opened the database to clear the outbox, that button was not
highlighted for me to click on it. Above it said to "close windows mail to
enable" The mail was not open. It will not let me click on the box "clear
outbox". I re-booted and I still cannot click on that button.
Thanks

I loaded this program and it says there is nothing to be cleaned. I have
tried changing the directory, renaming it, everything and it says there is
another program currently using the program so it will do absolutely nothing.
I am barred no matter what I try to do. Who is the moron who changed the
e-mail program in the first place? Haven't they ever heard the phrase "Why
try to fix what isn't broken?" ?!?!?!?! It's sure broken now!!! This OS has
been out for how long and how many people are still having issues? I'm sure
a heck of alot more than the ones posting in here!!! Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated as I have exhausted every option given so far in these
postings.

Is you problem an email stuck in the Outbox?
If so, did you follow the instructions for WMUtil?
