I cannot send out messages

As of yesterday, I could not send out messages; however, I can receive. I
have Windows Vista and use the Windows mail with Earthlink as my email
account.
I checked the incoming/outgoing settings and the port settings and they are
correct.

When I try to send a message it goes to the Outbox folder and gets stuck
there. I have been able to delete all messages but one. when I try to
delete this message it gives me the error box that says "an unknown error has
occured". Therefore, it would seem that this message is blocking the send
capability.

Can someone please advise as to how to fix this please?

Cal has posted a fix/workaround for this but the underlying cause
could well be dodgy antivirus software.

If you are a Norton or McAfee victim you could face further problems
down the line and should replace either of them with free
tried and tested alternative such as Avast.

I(n any circumstance... make sure email AV scanning is disabled.

I did the link and so far it appears to have fixed the problem.
Thanks for your help and quick response.

You're welcome.

If you are using Norton or McAfee that "might" be causing the problem.

Also, do you compact the database often?

Dear Cal Bear '66", re:"stuck outbox messages" According to "Dell" the
maker of my Windows Vista computer: If you don't use your e-mail account but
instead use Windows Mail all e-mails go to the outbox and stay there. When
you are finnished writing your e-mails click the send button. When you are
done writing all your e-mails clck Send/Receive button. Windows Vista works
differently from my other Windows XP where I use Outlook Express. Try it
it'll work. Cyber Tod

Bull!!

Dell is wrong and is giving you idiotic information.

I have not had any stuck messages (yet), but my e-mails are sent immediately --
same as Outlook Express.

The information you received from Dell is incorrect.
Windows Mail works just like Outlook Express in that regard.
Like OE, WM has options to send immediately or to defer sending.

You mean you didn't see the BIG RED BOX which gave you fixes for stuck
messages?
