cannot delete or move message from outbox

I am having the exact same problem. I deleted the files in the outbox, ran
the utility.. got the db error. Erased the message store and made sure that
winmail was not running in task manager and got the same message.

Was this ever resolved or should I just make a new account?

Make sure you update to Vista SP1 and also make sure you don't have any
antivirus software set to scan email. Then see if that resolves the issues.

Thanks so very much for the fix. It worked completely. I was beginning to
suspect that the culprit was Norton Antivirus.

However, I have the same problem on my laptop using Windows XP. Can you
guide me to the fix for that?

This is blocking all messages, both new and reply messages and is therefore
urgent that I fix this. the error message is " an unknown error has
occurred".

What doesn't work about it? Did it not wipe out the message in the outbox?
Did you install Vista SP1?

I had exactly same problem. In Windows Explorer I typed in 'outbox'. This
found the directory where Windows Mail was held. I re-named Windows Mail to
WindowsMail removing the space in between. Then I copied WindowsMail onto C
drive.

Then when I clicked on Windows Mail it prompted me to setup a new account.
The old account was wiped out by itself, I did not have to do anything. I
setup a new account and then copied the folders containing my 'backed up'
messages back from C drive to the new Windows Mail that the computer had
created.

I copied all folders I needed, bypassing the Outbox. This seems to have
worked.

That is a good way to reset the message store, but its easier to go to the outbox in WinMail and then delete the message from the outbox. Or if that fails, my Windows Mail Utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) has a button to do that, but if you have the latest updates to Vista, then you should be able to just delete the message in WinMail from the outbox.
