As already mentioned, Java and Javascript are two different things.
Here are some links that should help you out:

http://www.tucows.com/article/1690
This one includes several different browsers besides IE.

Java and Javascript are not the same. Java requires a separate
interpreter be installed to support that language. Javascript is built
into whatever web browser you are using (and why Javascript doesn't
always run the same on every web browser because each thinks their way
is better).

You need to go into the security zone under which the web site is being
rendered. In the status bar of IE, look to see which security zone is
shown for the site you are currently visiting. It could be the
Internet security zone. If so, go into Internet Options -> Security,
select the Internet security zone, scroll down to the Scripting
section, and make sure active scripting (Javascript) is enabled.

If you're not into customizing the security zones then click the Default
button, if enabled, under each security zone to reset IE to use the
default settings for each security zone. The default settings for the
Internet security zone is to enable scripting.

Maybe the site is not compatible with IE8. Try Tools > Compatible View
Settings and add the site to the list.

You opened the wrong tab. Instead, drill down this way:

Tools | Internet Options | Security | Custom Level | Scripting | Active
Scripting

Which choice is selected? Enable, Disable, or Prompt?

Also, you should clear your browser cache and close IE7 and open it
again.

thanks again twayne, but I have done that, it was already checked as
enabled, but still i cant get into the credit union site.
now what about this: above the scripting option, in custom level, under
Misc. are these 2 things, both of which are checked as disabled:
Allow scripting of IE browser control
&
Allow script initiated windows without size or position constraints

thanks & i have an email to the credit union to have them take a look

D

Dallas

yes, thank you Vanguard LH & I did that & it was already checked as Enabled.
I did look under Restricted Sites, for whatever reason & there it is checked
as disabled. but again, i have been trying to balance my account & have been
to this site many times this past week or so & never a problem.

thanks Richard, but am using ie7; is there this option to check
compatibility within 7 ? i went to tools> options but didn't see it

I've never noticed those and thus haven't even looked at them, so no
help there. It sounds like a possibility though and worth trying. If
it's not a fix, set them back until you can learn more about them.
Watch out that you aren't enabling something for untrusted sites or
anything like that. On a quick scan, all I find similar to what you
mentioned is for untrusted sites, NOT something you want to allow
scripts on if you don't have to.

It's a long shot but have you previously done what this page talks
about?
http://www.fiveanddime.net/secure-internet-explorer-6/
That could be one of the problems; dropmyrights.msi.

Sorry,

Twayne

Thanks Daave & I have subsequently did that & it is checked Enabled & has
been, so that's why I am curious(& frustrated) about it as I had not been in
there to change anything. I am still awaiting to hear back from the credit
union IT people.

thanks again

Thanks Twayne & please, no "sorry's" as you all have been of great help to
me. But I checked into that other option below & still no dice.

thanks again Twayne

Compatibility View mode in IE8 has it render the web page in "quirks
mode" which means it uses the rendering engine of IE7. Since you are
using IE7, you are already using IE8's Compatibility View mode.

If your bank site is getting rendered under the Restricted Sites
security zone then its domain was added to that security zone. That
also means that few features of HTML are allowed in rendering the web
page. The whole point of the Restricted Sites security zone is to
neuter a web page to eliminate advanced features, which includes
scripting.

You don't want a site listed in the Restricted Sites security zone
unless you are specifically attempting to neuter that site which removes
a lot of functionality from web pages.

When you visit the bank site, what security zone is shown in the status
bar of IE?
