Yellow Question Marked items in the Device Manager

I am using a brand new Dell dimension 4600 PC.
In the Device Manage three devices have 'Yellow Question Marks'
When I click on these items I am informed respectively:
(1) PCI Input Device PCI: (\VEN_1102&DEV_7004&SUBSYS_10031102&REV_00\4&1C660DD6&0&09F0 The drivers for this
device are not installed.
(2) Universal Serial Bus (USB): ControllerPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24DD&SUBSYS_01741028&REV_02\3&172E68DD&0&EF
The drivers for this device are not installed.
(3) Multimedia Audio Controller: PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0006&SUBSYS_10031102&REV_00\4&1C660DD6&0&08F0
The drivers for this device are not installed.
And I am prompted to re-install the drivers.
However when I click on the Update the Driver (using the original Dell Dimension Resource CD that came with the system),
I am told that 'The Hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software'
Please I need step-by-step instructions.
Sincerely,
Sally Syrose

Something has got screwed up...
Delete the devices from Device Manager.
Reboot
Let XP find them for you automatically.
XP loses my modem occasionally so it's a case of removing it from the system
then rebooting and letting XP find it again. I gave up using the driver
supplied with the modem and just use a standard windows driver now - I don't
have to muck about with CDs now.

Sorry for the full quote here but that is a problem with Dell. They don't
supply all drivers for all their models. If you have gone over all your
disks and have missing drivers, go to their web site and download them.

A friend with an Inspiron that was 3 weeks old totally ruined his Windows
installation. He is an architect and needed his laptop's graphics to be
working perfectly. So, I reinstalled XP for him and all the drivers off the
CD. Missing were the video driver and the modem driver. I asked where the
missing disk was and was told I had it all so I rang Dell to be told by a
woman in India that Dell don't supply, for that Inspiron model laptop,
drivers for those things on CD and that I had to download them from their
web site. Being annoyed at that, I said "We don't have Internet access and
the graphics have to be correct as an architect uses this computer so how
can I get them?" and all the woman could answer was "Oh... oh...." and then
said she would get her boss. Her boss came to the phone and told me the same
answer so I repeated we didn't have Internet access so he smugly replies
"Well this is the only way you can get them" so I asked why they weren't
supplied. "Dell doesn't do that when they can be downloaded" he said. Sick
of going in circles I hung up. I did download them of course but if the guy
DIDN'T have Internet access it would have been a doorstop rather than a
laptop to him.

Actually you don't have to reboot when you delete them. You can choose to
Scan for Hardware Changes and that will find them the same as rebooting.
