Yahoo tool bar problem

Has anyone else seen a problem with computers that have the yahoo toolbar
installed? Over the past four days I've had several customers call with IE
6.0 problems. It will start, connect to a page then as soon as the page is
rendered it exits the program as if they had clicked on the close program x.
There are no error messages, nothing in the event logs. Uninstalling the
yahoo toolbar fixes the problem. Not all computers that have the yahoo
toolbar seem to be affected. I'm trying to figure out if the yahoo toolbar
is the culprit or is some new exploit causing the problem with the yahoo
toolbar problem merely a symptom. So far the affected computers don't have
any malware infections I can find. Anyone else seen the problem? I did see
one post in microsoft.public.security.virus but that group doesn't get a lot
of traffic.

Hi Kerry

The same happened with me when i installed yahoo toolbar. When i used to
click on the shortcut of explorer on the desktop it didn't want to open as if
it was gone. When i uninstalled yahoo toolbar explorer worked normal.

Right now i have a problem with my computer everytime i get disconnected
from the internet the computer freeze.I use windows xp professional and
norton antivirus 2006.I did a full scan it gave me no viruses, spyware and
malware. One time when i was rebooting after the computer froze and when it
was doing the windows xp scan to check for errors it gave me norton antivirus
has one of it's files in an invalid entry. So i would very much appreciate if
you could tell me how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Kerry. IIRC there were a few posts about this last week and the
conclusion was that the culprit was the Yahoo toolbar. I don't remember any
other details, so I'd just start by removing the toolbar and see what
happens. The Yahoo toolbar slows things down a lot anyway so removing it is
A Good Thing. ;-)

It doesn't get within shouting distance of my computers. Same with any
add-on toolbar for IE. Unfortunately many installs of seemingly unrelated
products have an opt out install of a toolbar that all too many people don't
opt out of. I've done a lot of different searches of these groups, Google
groups, and general Internet searches. Lot's of problems with Yahoo, no
surprise, but this seems to be something that just started in the last week
or so and doesn't affect everyone who has the Yahoo toolbar installed. No
official word from Yahoo either. I hate mysteries that involve strange IE
behaviour. I must have missed the posts last week.

As a general rule I advise my customers to avoid any/all toolbars,
including yahoo and google. At a minimum, they're clutter, at most,
spyware (though not yahoo/google). Since there are so many legit ways
of getting these toolbars, people may not be as leery for fakes.
