xp2 install problem

I tried to install the upgrade to xp2 on my machine.
Everything went okay until it got to the part about
finishing install and running process after install. My
machine stopped after that. I could still move around in
windows, but I cannot cancel the install, nor will it
complete.

I had to reinstall xp pro from the disk after that. I am
now trying to upgrade to xp1, but the same problem is
happening. I do not have anything running in my system
tray. I used to have xp1 installed. I am at my wits
end. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank

There is no point installing SP-1 if you are planning to install SP-2
since SP-2 includes all Critical Updates in SP-1 and more.

Some log files you can check for any clues or error messages:

%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)
