Recovery Console XP2

How do I install the recovery console in XP2?
With XP1 all I had to do was to insert my Win XP CD and enter an instruction
at a Command Prompt. When I tried to do that with XP2 installed I got an
error message saying that my installed version was different to that on the
CD, so I tried my SP2 CD and nothing happened when I tried the Command
Prompt instruction.
What do I need to do please?

Hi

If you have upgraded to SP2 and you are using a CD from a previous version
of XP, you will see that error message. To install the Recovery Console in
SP2, you will need to create a slipstreamed SP2 CD.

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

Hi,

You need to slipstream the SP2 into your SP1 install CD. NOt sure how to
do it, but there have been many posts here on how.

Thank you for your response, but what a shambles!
MS appear to have effectively removed a most useful tool from SP2 because
the 'average' user will find your work around quite beyond them. It's a
shame that MS, by design, incompetence or whatever, have effectively removed
one of the most powerful/useful diagnostic tools. Is this something 'mere
mortals' might expect to be re-provided EASILY in the future?
