Network file access problems

I have a network of 3 machines - two running XP Home SP2 called say XP1 and
XP2 and one running windows 98, W98.

Just recently I have lost access to shared folders on XP1 from the other
two. XP1 also hosts the network printer but that is still working fine from
all machines. XP1 can still access the shared folders on both XP2 and W98
and XP2 and W98 can access each others folders.

If I set up a shared folder on XP1 it shows up as a network folder in "My
network places" on XP1 and I can open it from there no problem. If I then
try and access it via "View workgroup computers" from any of the machines,
the folder shows up in the list of resources on XP1 but clicking on it
throws up the general error about not having the right permissions etc go
see your administrator plus the specific error "Not enough server storage is
available to process this command" I also get the same error if I try and
add the folder via "Add a new network place" on the XP2 and W98 machines
when the system tries to access the folder after it has added it to the list
of network places. It seems to pick up the network address of the folder ok.
Again the same error if I click on the name added to the list.

I have checked the firewall settings on XP1 and they appear to be unchanged
with both XP2 and W98 allowed in the trusted zone and I can run TCP/IP
communications between all three machines with no problems.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and solve this problem would be much
appreciated.

Graham.

For anyone who is interested I have now solved this problem. The cause was
that my machine was running more than the number of devices allowed by the
default setting of IRPStackSize in
HKLM\SYSTEMCurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver (15). All I had to do to
solve the problem was add this key and set its value to 20 to solve the
problem.
