Home Networking problem

Thanks in advance for anyone's assistance... here's my issue. I had a network
set up between 2 pc's - one was XP SP1 (XP1) and the other was Win2000 (W2K).
To access files & printers on W2K, we'd have to 'log on' from XP1.

Anyway, we replaced the network router with a wireless one, added a new XP
system (XP2), and finally moved the PCs around a bit in the office. Here's
the problem... when I first set up XP2 (before we moved the PCs around) I was
still able to access files & printers across the network. Now that we've
moved XP2 to where W2K was before and W2K to where XP1 was (XP1 is going
away), the computers cannot see each other on the network. So I ran the
Network Setup wizard on XP2 to recreate the workgroup ZTEAM, and also created
a setup disk to use on W2K. No go.

I hope this is enough information to get someone's help on here, let me know
what else might be needed.

The network setup disk won't work on Win2k. Try:

1. Manually join the Win2k machine to ZTEAM: Right click My Computer and
select Properties. Network Identification tab - Properties button.

2. After reboot create a new user account which exactly matches the user
name and password used to log onto the XP machine.

Doug, thanks for your time. Indulge me for a couple paragraphs and let me
complicate this a bit further, so I can pose another question or two. First,
all 3 computers (XP1, XP2, W2K) are still connected to the router. I sat down
at XP1 and noticed that it showed as being on workgroup "MSHOME" even though
I'd changed it to ZTEAM on Thursday. So I looked at XP2 and it was set at
"MSHOME" as well! Weird. W2K still shows as ZTEAM. Fine.

So I (again) changed XP1 and XP2 back to ZTEAM, rebooted both, and tried to
let the computers find each other. I again get the message on both XP
computers "Zeheteam is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions. The list of servers is not currently
available." I haven't even TRIED to connect to/from W2K at this point.

So I suppose I should start from scratch. Should one computer somehow be set
up as an administrator? How? Should I redo the Network Setup Wizard on the
two XP machines on a differently named workgroup and then follow your
instructions for W2K? Am I even close to getting these computers connected
again?!?

Again, thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

I assume this is some kind of typo: "Zeheteam"

If all of these machines are now joined to the same workgroup, I wouldn't
bother with the wizard:

1. Check firewalls: XP SP2 firewall should be configured with an
exception for file and printer sharing or disabled altogether. Third party
firewalls and security software require product specific settings or
uninstallation. You should not run both the XP and a third party firewall.

2. Create user accounts on the Win2k machine to match the XP users per
previous post.

3. On the XP machines go to Administrative Tools/Services; double click the
Computer Browser Service; and change its setting from Automatic to Manual.
Reboot.

The above assume that these machines have more or less default settings -
this may not be the case. Also, in a workgroup environment all machines are
peers despite documentation you may find implying that there is a host,
master, or primary machine.
