Win 98 and XP coexistence under workgroups

Mark Schneider

I have 2 PC's running XP and 2 running W98. All running
under same workgroup, simple file sharing, sharing across
the network is allowed via NWLink IPX/SPX/Netbios and not
via TCP/IP for security reasons. ICF is running on both
XP machines.

Both W98 machines can "see" and use printers/folders on
XP1 but cannot see XP2 and its printer/shared folders.
They did for a minute or two and then the access dropped
out and I couldn't get it back (after re-boots etc).

I have checked the config of both 98 machines and both XP
machines and they are identical pairs.

Is this a coexistence issue with W98 and XP or could XP2
have reached some internal limit (on network shares
perhaps?) that I am not aware of. Or could it be caused
by differences in the services available/allowed via the
ICF settings on each machine which appear slightly
different?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

I hope someone answers your question soon. I looking to setup a similar
home network except I'm just going to have 1 Win XP Home computer and the
other Win 98, with plans on adding an Xbox wireless LAN adapter.
