home networking

You're lucky!
After XP2 was installed, neither can access the others
files or printers....

I have the same issues as "not lucky" after sp2, none of
my PC's talk to each other anymore, screw the web page
below, because my network was working before sp2. I have
disabled the firewall, and re ran network setups, opened
ports and all, with no luck.

On the other hand, at my job, I have had no problems with
SP2 across novell, and microsoft. So sp2 just seems to
hose home networks.

I will work on the home network for a few more days, then
I guess the only other option is to uninstall sp2, and
hope and pray.

I had the same problem; I then removed SP2, did system restore, followed
www.careyholzman.com/netfixes step #1 TOO THE LETTER and something in there
solved my problem. I did not D-load the ME file though, as I'm XP/98
Network.

Prior to those steps I used the following process to get a clean slate
(well, partially clean):
Winipcfg on my other machine (Win98): release all, renew all.
Also, I ran msconfig in XP (Start/Run/type in: msconfig, you probably knew
that, but I don't know what you know, trying to be literal/helpful...),
clicked on 'services' tab and disabled IPv6 internet connection firewall,
seemed to help as well.
My third party firewall doesn't seem to bother my network
connections/communications.
Hope it works for you.
I'm feeling adventurous; I may retry SP2, now that I know what to
change/fix.
