XP Upgrade problem - virus??

HELP!

I'm in the middle of upgrading Windows 98 to XP Home. I
got to the point where the installation procedure
automatically restarts my computer. Part way through, I
now have a black screen with a flashing
message: "BootSector Write !!" and underneath that (also
flashing) "VIRUS: Continue (Y/N)?"

What should I answer and why am I seeing this? I very
recently installed a new McAfee antivirus program and did
a full scan and it cleaned everything - or so I thought.
What's going on?

Please advise ASAP!

Thanks!

It's a message from your motherboard bios. The installation has changed the
boot sector, which it is supposed to do, but it's also something that a
virus might do.
