Oddly, everything is up to date so why am I getting
the pop-ups?

Robert

Testing using this page, the major version number
has changed from 14 to 15.

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

So that must have happened yesterday. That Flash test page,
has a table containing "latest version" information in it.
And 15.0.0.152 is listed as the "latest version".

*******

The Avast page shows "tick boxes" in the right hand
column, for all items. So you are in fact, fully
up to date.

You could look in the Avast control panel preferences,
for a preference that disables the dialog, or, changes
the behavior of the dialog to only tell you when one of
the items needs to be updated. I don't have Avast here,
so don't know where that preference would be hiding.

OK, look at this picture carefully, and see if your
Avast has one of these. Turning off all the boxes will
stop that annoyance. The free version of Avast, this
function is "manual", meaning it's going to pester you.
And since your picture shows you were fully updated,
it looks like they pester you even when nothing needs
to be updated. Which is stupid. Obviously, Avast
needs a tick box labeled "don't do stupid things" :)

OK, Tools has an entry called Software Updater.
Look in there for the controls. Disable it.
Maybe once every couple of weeks, you can enable
it long enough to check the status. Then, disable
it again if it's going to be a pain to live with.

Hi Paul,

I went into tools and changed it as you
suggested:

My only question now is do I trust Avast to
update any of these programs when I enable it
occasionally and find a program that needs
updating?

Thanks,
Robert

I would:

1) Look at the list Avast presents.
2) Run the updates from the individual programs.
For example, use the Flash control panel, use the
Check For Updates button, that sort of thing.

Use Avast as a "hint" some program needs updating,
but look into it yourself.

The table at the bottom of this page, tells
you what the current version of Flash is.

For those who have problems installing Active X to Win XP. Be sure to close your browser before installing. This problem happened with me using Firefox and SeaMonkey browsers. First download,...then close the browser,...then install. Worked for me. Your mileage could vary but I think this will help many with old XP2 or 3. TG

Hello Paul,

As it happens I had another pop-up from Avast
which I generally ignore:

oqvdw3.jpg

I assume this isn't something I want to do,
and if so how do I stop this from popping up?

Thanks,
Robert

Avast | Tools | Grimefighter | Settings | uncheck the "Always check..."
box.
