XP Updates add old printer

I got rid of my old HP PhotoSmart 1000 printer and got a new HP PhotoSmart
7760. Now when ever I get updates from Microsoft for XP, It reinstalls my
old PS 1000 printer TWICE and makes one of them the default. I have to go
to Control Panel and make my 7760 the default and delete the two 1000
printers. It does this everytime I download any upgrades or fixes from
Microsoft. I am sure there are a couple lines of instruction somewhere
causing this grief but I have no clue how to permanently fix it. Any help
would be appreciated.

You did not uninstall the old unit correctly.

Thank you very much. I followed the instructions there and did find some
remnants of old printer stuff. Now I just need to wait for the next Windows
Update and give it a try. Thanks again Cari
